The Orpheus Institute - How we work
HOW WE WORK
PROFESSIONAL TRAINING
The Orpheus Institute works with mental health professionals, entire teams of professionals, NGOs / Nonprofit organizations, and researchers to train in a unique tool focused on emotions for mental health and cognitive condition treatment, the Catharsis Application Program (CAP), and to integrate it into standard therapeutic settings.
The Catharsis Application Program employs the effects of music and imagery on the brain. Our psycho-emotional therapy helps practitioners to circumvent the self-protection challenges present in traditional conscious exploration of the past, getting around resistance, fear, or communication difficulties. People are able to gently reveal otherwise “unspeakable” realities deep within their mental or behavioral illness. Both patients and professionals get a powerful methodology for emotional exploration and relief, and for making memory connections. Through online and onsite training and consulting services we tailor training to the needs of the practice, facility or field environment, and offer direction and support. The training covers principles and implementation of the Catharsis Application Program. To support the training we offer supervision, conferences, consultation, assessment tools, and informative webinars. The Programmatic Music used in CAP is designed to take individuals on a journey to explore their inner terrain. The music is played in its raw, inspired, improvised state which resonates with everyone as they discover his/her own universe through it. The music pieces stimulate a variety of emotions and emotional attachments that follow a cathartic trajectory prompting a positive release of unwanted emotions. It is important to emphasize that the music, all original compositions, are the core of this method.
“More powerful than conscious elaboration, the intensity of that which has been revived through musical induction is preserved in the patients' drawings. This is particularly true of the musical selections offered by Dr. Alain Amouyal. I had the opportunity to witness with consistency the impact his music had on the patients.” — Dr. Michel G. Mouret, psychiatrist and psychotherapist
