PTSD VETERANS

The Orpheus Institute - PTSD Veterans
Helping Veterans with PTSD all around the world
OUR TREATMENT Negative judgments about oneself can torment a soul for life. The agitation these veterans feel can trigger episodes of silent, lonely suffering, where intimacy and interaction seem impossible. We all have a moral responsibility to safeguard the health and wellbeing of veterans and to ask the right questions about the trauma they have suffered. How can we assist these veterans in managing the psychological, emotional, physiological, spiritual, behavioral and social impact of committing or witnessing acts that violate deeply-held beliefs and moral values? How do we avoid arousing old emotions and memories related to the horrors they have survived but have somehow managed to suppress?
In the past, warriors returning from battle would go through purification rites. We are dealing with philosophical, moral and existential questions and the answer goes way beyond simply helping veterans to “get over it” and readjust to civilian life. Native Americans, for example, had rites of cleansing and purification to deeply heal their warriors from the horrible effects of war. Many societies and cultures of the past felt they had to care for the spiritual needs of their fighting men. Some even believed that war could steal the “soul” of a soldier. Today, veterans are encouraged to "re-train", to rehabilitate themselves and to regulate their traumatic stress without this deep cleansing work. Be that as it may, when veterans write or talk about their wartime experiences, they express themselves in terms of moral injury. They talk about war’s impact on their identity, their inner selves, their very soul. At The Orpheus Institute, we want to help veterans heal from their moral and spiritual wounds.
The 12-week Graphic Expression Under Musical Induction program can play this role of "rite of return". It’s a program of cleansing, which helps the individual to regain his/her identity – an identity cleared of remorse and guilt but also enriched by an experience which, although traumatic, can also mark the beginning of a journey towards fulfillment.
In Jung's psychology, we cannot be whole without accepting our shadow and our private Hell. Veterans often experience, usually despite themselves, this descent into the Underworld. We need to cast light on the dark parts and integrate them into the life story, thus encouraging the individual’s rise to a new consciousness. The cathartic function of the music used in our program can help heal "the effects of war". The music speaks to the soul, delivering a message about human suffering, wandering and the conflicts within to eventually offer a resolution through a connection with our inner treasures. Drawing and the symbolic language it conveys has a profound transformative power. For veterans, it can restore a sense of belonging to the human community - awakening feelings that may have been dormant for a long time. Through drawing under musical induction, veterans can enjoy their path of reconstruction without it being the goal in itself. In this journey of healing their inner wounds, they can discover pearls, have revelations and gain awareness. This path awakens the inner warrior, the one who has the strength, the courage and the fortitude to take charge of his healing by seeking personal solutions that are rich in meaning. This basic work toward deep reconstruction will also help veterans benefit from other medical or mental health regimens with greater efficiency and acceptance. OUR OFFER CAP methodology bypasses the re-enactment of the trauma in play because the process allows veterans to discover unsuspected resources hidden in their unconscious. Undoubtedly, this process helps build self-esteem and self-confidence while fostering a new life after a trauma. We offer professionals from around the world an outstanding course of training to help veterans affected by PTSD recover from the traumatic experiences, trials and horrific sights they have been exposed to.
